Plantik speaks at the Euroseeds x ASTA event

Last week, the American Seed Trade Association and Euroseeds organized an event to share insights and experiences from the U.S. and the EU on creating diverse & sustainable protein sources through plant breeding innovation.

Speakers from both the public and private sectors exchanged their views on the immense potential of New Plant Breeding Techniques (NPBTs) including Genome Editing to face pressing challenges in providing sustainable, healthy, and affordable protein to a growing population.

As the global demand for protein is expected to increase in the coming years, it will be essential to ensure that increased protein production has no adverse effects on the environment and climate. Plant Breeding Innovation can play a key role in the development of sustainable protein sources, contributing to healthier diets while minimising environmental and climate impacts.

As one of the few European companies spearheading research and development efforts into the development of new crop varieties through NPBTs, Plantik’s CEO Ying Shao was invited to share the company’s experience in the emerging market in Europe, as well as business and consumer attitudes towards plant products developed through genome editing. Other speakers include:

- Mr Martin Hlaváček , Member of the European Parliament

- Mr César González, Manager Public Affairs, Euroseeds

- Ms Natalie DiNicola , Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Benson Hill
